Overview of Alberta’s Provincial Elections
Elections for provincial governments are held every four years. Alberta has a fixed election date schedule which establishes that the election must be held between March 1 and May 31.

Who Can Run
You can run as a Candidate in an Albert Provincial election if you are:
- 18 years of age or older, and
- a Canadian citizen, and
- a resident of the province
Candidates must either be registered with a party or declare their intention to run as an independent. Consult the 2018 Candidates’ Guide for more details.
How to Vote
Electors can vote in the ward or jurisdiction in which they reside. Voting can be done at assigned polling stations and City Halls. Voters must present valid ID to prove identity and residency to vote.
Check your local election authority website for polling station addresses, hours and acceptable forms of identification.
